Some Definitions
Each and every one of us deal with mental health.
Good mental health means generally feeling good and being able to cope with everyday life at home and at work. It means finding balance in all parts of your life: social, physical, spiritual, emotional, and psychological.
Mental illnesses are conditions that can cause harmful changes in your thinking and behaviour. By age 40, about 50% of Canadians have or will have a mental illness.
These illnesses can cause distress and make it hard to enjoy everyday life. They are complicated conditions that develop from a combination of:
- your genetics and biology;
- your environment;
- your life experiences.
They can be treated and most people who have them can recover and lead happy and productive lives.
